BastionGPT updates clinical document processing and OCR for healthcare workflows

DALLAS, Texas — Bastion Intelligence today released updated document analysis and optical character recognition capabilities for BastionGPT, enabling healthcare professionals to analyze multiple clinical and administrative files and create source-grounded draft documents within an environment designed to support HIPAA compliance.

The update combines OCR with AI vision to interpret text, scanned pages, charts, tables, and graphs. Users can review extracted information, compare source files, summarize records, and prepare drafts for professional review and revision.

Supported formats include:

  • PDF
  • Word (.doc, .docx, .docm)
  • PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx)
  • Excel (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm)
  • CSV, TXT, and HTML
  • Image files (.png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .tif)

Representative workflows

Healthcare professionals can use uploaded source material to prepare:

  • Evaluation reports based on testing results and rating scales
  • Chart, pre-visit, discharge, and nursing handoff summaries
  • Medical chronologies and case summaries
  • Draft reports for independent medical and disability evaluations
  • Appeal letters based on payer policies, denial letters, and supporting records

BastionGPT also includes a Saved Prompts Library for organizing reusable instructions, report structures, and reference materials. Drafts remain subject to review, correction, and approval by the healthcare professional.

Privacy and data handling

BastionGPT is designed to support healthcare organizations’ HIPAA compliance obligations; HIPAA compliance ultimately depends on each organization’s configuration, policies, and use of the service. Bastion Intelligence includes a Business Associate Agreement with each plan and states that customer content is segregated by account and is not used to train AI models.

The platform can route tasks to models from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. According to Bastion Intelligence, content transmitted for processing through these integrations is not used to train the providers’ models. Data handling is governed by the applicable Business Associate Agreement and service terms, and customers retain their rights to uploaded content.

The updated document processing and OCR capabilities are available now to BastionGPT users at no added cost.
