New controls let signed-in users explore alternative story paths and preserve important context without changing the original conversation
August 26, 2026 — SultrAI, a browser-based AI character and roleplay platform, today announced the availability of conversation branching and story pins for all signed-in users.
The new controls are designed for people who build longer-running fictional conversations and want greater control over what happens to their story history. Conversation branching allows a user to create an alternative path from an earlier point without overwriting the original conversation. Story pins allow important messages and details to remain available as useful context later in the story.
Both features are now available to signed-in users following a staged production rollout.
Exploring Alternative Story Paths Without Losing the Original
Traditional character chats usually follow a single linear timeline. When a conversation takes an unwanted direction, the user may have to accept the result, remove part of the history or begin again.
SultrAI’s conversation branching introduces another option. A user can select an earlier point in a conversation and create a separate branch containing the story up to that moment. The original conversation remains unchanged, while the branch can develop independently.
This makes it possible to explore different decisions, character reactions or story outcomes without destroying previous progress. Each branch retains its relationship to the original conversation, helping users understand where the alternative path began.
A branch can then continue as its own conversation. New messages in the branch do not change the parent story, and continuing the parent does not modify the branch.

Story Pins Preserve Important Context
Long-running conversations can contain important information that becomes difficult to locate as the history grows. A character may make a promise, reveal a motivation or establish a detail that should remain relevant later.
Story pins allow signed-in users to mark selected messages as important. Pinned information can then be included as supporting context during future interactions.
The feature is intended to complement recent conversation history and rolling memory rather than replace them. Recent messages remain useful for immediate dialogue, while memory summaries help carry broader continuity between sessions. Pins give users a direct way to identify particular details they want the system to retain as important.
Users remain in control of their own pins and can remove them when the information is no longer useful.
Persistent Context as a Product System
A convincing individual response is only one part of an ongoing character experience. Longer stories also depend on character identity, relationship history, world information and unresolved events remaining reasonably coherent.
SultrAI’s roleplay platform combines recent conversation history with rolling character memory, customizable character definitions, lorebooks, authored story arcs and optional contextual images.
Conversation branching and story pins add more direct user control to that system. Automatic memory can help reduce repetitive setup, while explicit controls allow users to preserve details and explore alternatives intentionally.
Generated responses can still drift or miss information. SultrAI presents memory and continuity as product capabilities rather than guarantees of perfect recall.
Built for Longer-Running Character Experiences
SultrAI supports creating and importing original fictional characters with defined personalities, appearances and opening scenarios. Users can attach lorebooks containing reusable locations, factions, terminology and world rules.
Authored story arcs provide optional narrative structure, while group scenes allow several fictional characters to participate within one setting. Contextual image generation can use the active character and scene as part of an image request, although generated visual details may vary.
Guest users can try eight messages without providing a credit card. Registration is required to save and manage longer-running experiences and to access conversation branching and story pins.
Availability
Conversation branching and story pins are available now to signed-in SultrAI users through the web application. No separate installation is required.
The rollout applies to newly created branches and pins. Existing conversations remain accessible, allowing users to continue established stories and create alternative paths where appropriate.
