DoorDash Rolls Out AI-Powered Planning Recommendations in the Dasher App for Experienced Dashers

New conversational features introduced at Dash Forward 2026 help Dashers plan delivery activity around school runs, second jobs, and other commitments

UNITED STATES: DoorDash is rolling out new artificial intelligence features in the Dasher app that give experienced Dashers personalized recommendations on when and where to deliver. Introduced at the company’s Dash Forward 2026 event, the features add a conversational layer to the scheduling tools that Dashers already use, with availability depending on the rollout and individual accounts.

The update is aimed at Dashers who already understand the basics of the platform and want help making planning decisions across a busy week.

From Scheduling Tool to Planning Conversation

Until now, Dashers have planned their activity mainly by reviewing scheduling options, checking hotspots on the map, and drawing on their own experience of local demand. The new features allow a Dasher to ask a direct question, such as when and where to deliver on a particular day. The platform can then respond with a recommendation based on the Dasher’s circumstances and available information, including a suggested delivery period and location.

This approach builds on existing scheduling functionality rather than replacing it. Dashers can continue to reserve delivery windows in advance or use Dash Now when a zone has demand. The AI features offer an additional way to interpret available information before committing time to a session. Scheduling availability continues to vary by market, and these options do not provide unrestricted access to delivery opportunities at all times.

Designed Around Real Schedules

Many Dashers balance delivery work with other responsibilities, such as school pickup, caregiving, studies, or another job. For these individuals, the question is often not whether to deliver but how to fit a session into a limited window. Personalized guidance can help a Dasher compare options for that window without manually reviewing several screens in the app.

A parent with a free afternoon before school pickup, for example, could ask the app which nearby zone and time block may suit that window. A student with evening classes could ask about the period before class begins. In each case, the Dasher keeps full control over whether to follow the suggestion.

Meal rushes typically bring the highest order volume, with lunch and dinner tending to be the busiest periods. However, demand patterns differ by zone, day of the week, and season. Recommendations that reflect the Dasher’s own situation and local information can help translate these general patterns into a more specific plan.

Information to Inform Decisions

DoorDash has been clear that recommendations are not a guarantee of available work or a particular level of earnings. Actual opportunities change with local demand, merchant activity, traffic, weather, and other operating conditions. Dashers continue to review each offer, including estimated pay, distance, and item count, before deciding whether to accept it, and declining an offer remains the Dasher’s choice.

Independent delivery work also carries costs that a recommendation cannot remove. Fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and mobile connectivity all affect net income, and Dashers should consider these expenses when evaluating any delivery plan.

Part of a Broader AI Effort

The in-app features were announced alongside DashBuddy, an AI assistant that answers questions from new Dashers through text message across the United States and Canada. Together, the two releases show DoorDash applying artificial intelligence at different points of the Dasher experience: answering foundational questions for those getting started and supporting planning decisions for those with more experience.

Both tools sit within a wider set of resources available through the Dasher app, including offer details, navigation, ratings information, and in-app support during active deliveries.

Availability

The new AI planning features are being rolled out to Dashers across the United States. Availability depends on the rollout schedule and individual account eligibility. More information about delivering with DoorDash, including requirements and vehicle options by market, is available at dasher.doordash.com.

Disclaimer: Actual earnings may vary depending on the number of deliveries a Dasher accepts and completes, the time of day, location, tips, Peak Pay, other incentives, and associated costs. Hourly pay calculations may be based on average Dasher payouts while on a delivery, from order acceptance until drop-off, over a 90-day period, including tips and applicable incentives. Instant payments through DasherDirect are subject to approval, and daily cash-outs through Fast Pay are subject to applicable fees. Becoming a Dasher is subject to a background check and availability, and the ability of a Dasher to deliver at any given time is also subject to availability.
