GiveARoof.org Announces Three-Year Framework for Coordinating Private-Sector Resources to Address Homelessness

CUPERTINO, Calif., October 17, 2026 — GiveARoof.org has announced a three-year framework for using donated airline miles, hotel points, credit-card rewards and other private-sector resources to support temporary shelter, transportation and coordinated services for people experiencing homelessness.

The framework combines donated loyalty rewards with Triage Welcome Centers, shared intake and case management, healthcare referrals and temporary hotel accommodation. The organization says the approach is intended to make greater use of existing private-sector resources while improving coordination and tracking how donated resources are used.

The framework was developed by GiveARoof.org founder Claudio Bono, who says the model is based on documenting the resources provided, the services delivered and the outcomes associated with each individual served.

“Unused loyalty value expires every year,” Bono said. “The objective is to identify resources that can be redirected toward shelter and related services while maintaining a clear record of how those resources are used.”

Turning Unused Loyalty Rewards Into Assistance

The GiveARoof.org model seeks participation from airlines, hotel companies, corporations and individual rewards holders willing to donate miles and points that might otherwise remain unused or expire.

The organization proposes using donated rewards, along with cash contributions and other private resources, for hotel accommodation, transportation and other forms of assistance. The framework is intended to connect those resources with individuals through a coordinated intake and case-management process.

Bono serves as Managing Director of The Cupertino Hotel and The Grand Hotel Sunnyvale for De Anza Properties and as President of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce. Through GiveARoof.org, a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in Cupertino, he is promoting a private-sector approach to supplement existing homelessness-response efforts.

Three-Year Framework Centers on Coordinated Intake

At the center of the framework are Triage Welcome Centers, which are envisioned as a coordinated entry point for people seeking assistance.

The centers would provide intake and screening and help coordinate access to food, showers, clothing, grooming, coaching, employment and vocational support, and other services based on an individual’s needs.

Temporary hotel accommodation would be considered for individuals who have been screened and prepared for placement. People requiring specialized mental-health or substance-use treatment would be referred to appropriate professional providers rather than being placed in temporary accommodation without the necessary services.

The framework also calls for participating nonprofits, healthcare providers, hospitality partners and other organizations to use coordinated intake and case-management processes.

GiveARoof.org says the proposed system is intended to document four basic elements of each intervention: who received assistance, what was provided, how long the assistance lasted and what occurred afterward.

Expanding an Existing Loyalty-Rewards Donation Model

GiveARoof.org has previously used a loyalty-rewards donation program through United Airlines’ MileagePlus Miles on a Mission initiative.

According to the organization, that campaign generated 510,405 donated miles against a 500,000-mile goal.

GiveARoof.org is seeking to expand the approach to additional airlines, hotel companies, credit-card and loyalty programs, corporations and individual rewards holders. The organization proposes converting eligible donated loyalty value into temporary accommodation, transportation and other assistance that can be tracked through its proposed coordination model.

Bono is also advocating for changes to Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code that would provide charitable-deduction treatment for qualifying corporate donations of airline miles and hotel loyalty points based on fair market value.

The proposed tax-code change is intended to create an additional incentive for corporations to contribute unused loyalty assets by establishing a potential charitable framework for qualifying donations.

Focus on Coordination Rather Than Replacing Existing Providers

GiveARoof.org says its framework is not intended to replace existing nonprofits, healthcare providers, hospitals or public agencies. Instead, the organization proposes connecting those organizations through a coordinated process.

Under the framework, hospitality partners could provide temporary accommodation, donated rewards could support hotel stays and transportation, healthcare organizations could provide clinical services, and nonprofits and other participating organizations could provide case management, employment support and related services.

The proposed process would connect those resources to individual needs and track the assistance provided and subsequent outcomes.

Bono says the framework is intended to address duplication by creating a clearer path between screening, temporary shelter, treatment when required, employment support and longer-term stability.

“The framework is designed around a three-year period and measurable outcomes,” Bono said. “The goal is to make better use of resources that already exist and document how those resources reach people who need assistance.”

Private-Sector Participation and Measurable Outcomes

GiveARoof.org is seeking partnerships with businesses, airlines, hotel companies, loyalty-program operators, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, hospitality groups and other organizations interested in participating in the three-year framework.

The organization presents the initiative as a private-sector contribution to existing homelessness-response efforts, with an emphasis on coordinating available resources before creating additional infrastructure.

According to GiveARoof.org, the framework will focus on measurable information about assistance provided, including the type and duration of support and what happens after an individual receives assistance.

“The measure should be what happened to the person who needed help,” Bono said.
