Pape-Dawson Launches Integrated Transportation Engineering Services for Growing Communities

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — August 26, 2026 — Pape-Dawson today launched an integrated suite of transportation engineering services for public agencies, developers, and institutions planning roadways and intersections in growing communities.

Available beginning August 26 in markets served by Pape-Dawson’s U.S. offices, the suite brings traffic forecasting, roadway capacity analysis, intersection evaluation, multimodal planning, and phased development recommendations into one early-stage workflow. Sam Dawson, P.E., chief executive officer, is the executive sponsor for the rollout, which will be delivered by the firm’s transportation practice.

The launch formalizes work that is often completed through separate studies. New elements include a unified process for testing land-use and transportation scenarios, documenting phased improvements, reviewing future technology needs, and coordinating transportation recommendations with land development plans.

Scope of Services

Project teams can apply the service suite during planning and preliminary design to:

  • Forecast demand using demographic, employment, and land-use projections.
  • Test the effects of residential communities, commercial centers, and new roadway connections.
  • Evaluate signal timing, turn-lane needs, intersection spacing, access points, lane configurations, and emergency access.
  • Review pedestrian and bicycle facilities, transit access, service routing, drainage, and right-of-way requirements.
  • Develop phased recommendations that connect near-term work with projected traffic and development conditions.
  • Consider intelligent transportation systems and connected-vehicle readiness during initial planning.

Analyses may use geographic information systems, digital mapping, traffic sensors, data analytics, and traffic simulation software. Depending on agency requirements and project scope, the work can reference established methods in the Highway Capacity Manual and applicable guidance in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Representative Application

For a proposed residential community near an established commercial corridor, the process could compare several buildout scenarios, model traffic at nearby intersections, and evaluate alternative access locations. The resulting plan could identify the timing of turn lanes, signal changes, pedestrian crossings, or network connections while documenting right-of-way that may be needed for a later phase.

This coordinated approach is intended to help clients distinguish immediate needs from longer-range improvements. It also allows transportation recommendations to be considered alongside site access, drainage, public transportation, active mobility, safety, environmental stewardship, and cost.
